Description

SHARK BAY KITESURFING : INDEPENDENT KITE LESSONS TIME TO GET THE BOARD

The kite surfing or kite boarding water start is the critical skill to learn when you have mastered controlling your kite and body dragging, self rescue and understand perfectly the wind window,
This will be your first real taste of kite surfing.

PROGRAM : INDEPENDENT KITESURFING LESSONS : INTRODUCTION TO THE BOARD

  • Rigging and pre-flight check for the water based kites.
  • Water based site assessment including an introduction to weather, tides, assessments, dangers.
  • Recap of essential communication and launching signals.
  • Rigging and pre-flight check for the water based kites.
  • Introduction to the board, on the beach and in the water.
  • Board technique.
  • First board starts.
  • Control your speed of your first ride.
  • First board rides and prolonged power delivery.
  • Riding on board minimum 50 meters.
  • Riding on the board and coming back to the beach.
  • Launch and land a kite.
  • To be proud of your kite boarding progress.

TIPS TO KNOWN :

  • If your board sinks you need more power and board speed.  Keep your kite turning and don’t let it get too high.  Make sure you get enough board speed before edging the board.
  • If your kite crashes into the water, start turning it back up earlier.  This will become automatic eventually.
  • Do not bring your kite to 12 or you will lose power and speed and your board will sink. Keep your kite at 10-11 or 1-2.
  • Keep your knees bent when you start to lower your center of gravity.
  • In stronger winds you don’t need to fly the kite down so hard, and you won’t need to fly it up and down.  You will be able to fly it “locked in” at a convenient position.
  • Avoid pointing the board too far upwind and/or choking the kite (bar in too much) – both will result in your kite losing power and you sinking back into the water.
  • Heading straight downwind will also cause the kite to lose power – you counteract this by edging the board.
  • If your location suits try a downwind run to get the feel of board speed and flying the kite

SharkBay , Denham WA is one of the best places in the World I have kitesurfed!!
    I have been to a few..over the years…
It is a great place to learn with consistent wind and shallow knee deep water, I highly recommend it as a kitesurfing destination!!
You will progress really quickly in SharkBay. Damien from Sharkbay Kitesurfing is an excellent instructor. He explained everything really clearly and I really feel that I benefited from his clear instruction..
With the use of radio helmets during my lesson he was able to continue instruction while I was in the water!!
I was up and riding strongly in one direction on my first go!!
Now just need to practice and master turning to the right!!
Damien thanks for helping me progress with my kitesurfing after a break of 3 years !!
The West truly is the Best!!
    Cheers Tim
